Five Steps To Keeping Warm From Our Expert

Do you have a room that was just too HOT this summer? Remember last winter if you had a room that you just couldn’t keep warm? How about dirty ceiling fan blades? Or maybe, carpet stains around the edges of walls? Have you ever look at your utility bill and thought, how the heck did it get so expensive to be comfortable?

There are a number of things a homeowner has to consider when somewhat odd things happen in the home. So, lets look at what happens and see how you can take a few simple steps to improve your home.

Step one: Sealing your duct system with Aeroseal has by far the quickest return on investment that you can do for your home. On average, an older home loses about 1 ton of air from their HVAC system as soon as it’s turned on. In most cases, that’s 30% of the efficiency. Get the air where it belongs and you will see a significant improvement in comfort and energy savings. Sealing a duct system is done by our highly trained team members. They have performed over 6000 Aeroseal processes for well over a decade. In most cases you will run into issues that involve insulation and air sealing. A professional should look at each of these issues. There are city and county codes that need to be followed as well as some very specific testing that should be done. I talked about dirty fan blades and carpet earlier but have you ever wondered why your clothes in the closet get dusty? After you read this, go to your closet. Reach for the top of the door trim and feel the gap from the trim to the drywall. You will feel an opening and BINGO, there’s your issue. The dust is coming from your attic. The same thing happens to your ceiling fan. When the house goes into a “negative” pressure it draws air into the room. The air can enter the room from any opening.

Step two: Caulk all of your window and door trim, interior doors as well. That means the top of the door and window as well as the bottom of the window. Very few of you will have that caulk already there. When air sealing an attic, the ceiling fan electrical connection will be air sealed so the fan will no longer collect dust from the attic. Let’s see what we can do about our energy use.

Step three: Change incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs or LED bulbs.

Step four: Turn your thermostat down, or even just learn how the darn programmable thermostat works. Did you know that most folks have their refrigerator set cooler than necessary?

Step five: You can save 148 kwh per year just correcting the temperature. With some expert advice you can save even more.
